Usually alum powder is hydrated aluminium potassium sulfate. As an ingredient (i. e. , in cooking) it can be used in pickling recipes as a preservative to maintain fruits and vegetables crispy. Alum powder is also used as the acidic component of some commercial baking powders. Other uses include:
