Does sulfur powder kill fleas on dogs?

I have heard of others using sulfur powder on dogs for fleas, I am however worried it will harm my dogs.

Yes it can. It doesn't have a negative side effect on the dog usually but always make sure you read any instructions or warnings before putting anything on your dog.

There are plenty of safe flea dips on the market to purchase and these would be preferable to using sulfur powder. The problem with getting rid of fleas is not just what you use on the dog, but treating the surrounding areas, inside and outside the home to kill fleas.

And just what do you think these dips are made from? One is a lime-sulphur dip, usually accompanied by warnings to always wear gloves when handling the product, the other is lindane, also a pesticide and neurotoxin. What is preferrable about these?  add a comment

I totally agree with this post. Pharmaceutical companies manufacture new medications from natural ingredients and patent them by changing their molecular structure. Consumers in turn end up paying tons of money for medications that often have serious side effects. Check drugs-dot-com and inform yourself!  add a comment

The most effective way to kill fleas is a topical liquid that you apply to the skin, such as Frontline or Revolution.

Try again. As with most chemical drugs, the kritters are becoming increasingly immune, and these products have to be made ever stronger. They are pesticides designed to be absorbed via the skin into the bloodstream, slowly compromising the animal's immune system. Sulphur is a natural mineral.  add a comment

Ignorance is bliss. Meanwhile pharmaceutical companies are laughing all the way to the bank selling medications that cure nothing and often have serious side effects that wreck good health. This gives them the chance to sell more drugs. What a deal! Check drugs-dot-com and inform yourself!  add a comment

I used SEVIN for 30 years on dog and out side. Nothing bad happened and it worked. I only used the bags that said good for cats and dogs. Now all of a sudden, it is not safe? Who is in cahoots with who? Don't look good, folks?

Glad at least someone gets it. Diatomacious Earth works also. And if the dog or cat licks it, no problem. It can be fed for internal parasites.  add a comment

The best things to use are either Flea and Tick Sprays or Flea and Tick medication that is put on the dog's back. Both are safer for your dog.

What is safe about a pesticide introduced into the bloodstream of any living creature? Do you have any clue how these so called 'medications' work?  add a comment

The pharmaceutical companies count on ignorant people like Roland27 to rack up their profits. Who cares if our good health suffers as long as they make obscene amounts of money at our expense. Check drugs-dot-com to learn about nasty side effects and inform yourself!  add a comment

It is safe to sprinkle a little bit of sulfur powder in your dog's food to kill fleas, but it is best to go to a vet. There are medications and other topical treatments that can be given that are much safer and more effective.

Sprinkle in food? It is designed to be sprinkled into the fur. Other sulfur products such as MSM are for internal use, not the yellow sulphur powder. Going to the vet will surely safely and effectively line his/her pockets--by you and the pharma industry...  add a comment

Please inform yourself BEFORE blindly stating that prescribed medications are safer. Check the veterinary database of drugs-dot-com to learn about the nasty side effects of most of these medications and educate yourself. The quality of your pet's health is at stake!  add a comment

Open your eyes people! The pharmaceutical industry is a BUSINESS and as such would put itself out of business if it made medications that actually cured disease. Their strategy is simple - keep all of us sick so that we keep buying their harmful drugs.
