What is actual Burlwood?

Burl wood is a fast growing, abnormal growth on some trees. It is caused by fungal attacks and insects. It has unique shapes and rings. Common uses are to make clocks, furniture and artists use it for sculptures. Mostly removed from dead trees, removing it could kill live trees.

A burl is a tree growth in which the grain has grown in a deformed manner and therefore is not a particular type of wood but can be found in most types of trees. It should be Burl Wood 2 words. It is a much sought after form of wood used mainly in veneers and by some artists.

When a tree suffer from a deformed growth in the grain it is called burl. That means that any type of tree could possibly produce this type of wood.
