I'm sorry dear, they're calling you cheap. Tight comes from "holding your money close", ie tight fisted- keeping your money closed in your fist, and wad, being an old slang meaning your wad of money. It's not a nice thing to be, I suggest you pick up the tab a bit more often, or find more understanding, less spendthrift mates.

This term is used to describe someone who is extremely thrifty, some would say cheap. Furthermore, it means someone who hoards money or material things.
