What is a small black bug with a tail?

I don't think it's a stinger--It looks like a tail.

It is nearly impossible to identify a bug based on a single characteristic. My guess would be a Wingless Soldier Fly an American Pelecinid - as both are often identified by their tails. To get a more certain identification, information on your geographic location and other identifying features is necessary.

It probably is a tail. Most insects have tails, take for instance the beetle, or the lady bug, if it is not a tail, it is probable part of the wing that may have been damaged on its flight as it landed on a leaf or a flower bud. That is what i believe
