A noun is a part of speech that is easy to recognize if you remember this description: it's a person, place, or thing. Santa, the North Pole, and a toy soldier are all nouns.

It is a person, place, or thing. Dog, human, Mike, chair, sack, Canada are all examples. So are desk, map and airplane.
