In the USAF, it means "eligible to re-enlist. " In the US Army, USN and USCG, it means "ineligible to re-enlist without COMNAVCRUITCOM WAIVER. " There are re-entry codes of 3, 3A, 3B, 3C and so forth, which means different things in each branch of the military, including the USMC. This means the individual is eligible for reenlistment but must secure a waiver to do so. There are a variety of subsections to RE 3 that the individual will need to discuss with their recruiter if they wish to reenlist. The code may have been issued for a variety of reasons such as pregnancy or failure to meat educational requirements.
