What is a home remedy for a black eye?

Does putting meat on it really work?

Answer by  azgk11 (66)

The only advantage to putting meat on a black eye is if the meat is cold. The better treatment is to put an ice bag, some ice wrapped in a wash cloth or even a bag of frozen peas.

Many people have to use Steaks to cure a black eye. Some people say that the vitamins from the meat help however, the main reason a steak helps is the coldness from it. You could use an ice pack and get virtually the same results, with less mess.

The thing with meat is that they always show a large thick cool flexible steak. It's the cool, thick flexible part that helps the bruise. You could get a similar effect with a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel. Try it.

Putting meat on your eye is about the same as putting an ice pack on it. I would recommend an ice pack as it is much more convenient as meat.

The best home remedy for a black eye is ice. It reduces the swelling and alleviates pressure on the eye. Putting a slab of cold meat does work because it will produce the same cooling effect, but it is much messier and not nearly as effective as applying ice to the black eye.

A black eye is just a bruise. Try a cream like arnica. Meat does help to soothe it, but a cold compress would be less messy for the same effect!
