"Herx" is a nickname for Herxheimer Reaction. It occurs when bacteria builds up because the body cannot remove it quick enough. It is common during antibiotic therapy.

A Herx reaction is when an antibiotic kills a bunch of bacteria at the same time and there is a large release of toxins into the bloodstream all at once. You can get a spiking fever, aches, nausea, etc. It is usually associated with Lyme disease and syphilis, though it is seen in some rare diseases too.
