River rock as the name indicates is best use for a fux river on the side and front of your patio, the rocks do not make a good firm fitting for feet for guest, so use the River Rock as a suplement decor, not as the main surfas of the patio.

River rock are circular or elliptical in shape so a combination of small and large rock will be needed. If you want to bring nature through the rock then the patio should be flowing like a river. Use a semi hard base like modified 2A and grout between the rocks.

Use river rock as a border surrounding your patio. It also makes a unique pathway or sidewalk through the patio area.

I would think that the best patio design you could use would have to be a certain type of lateral design.
