Question by  GinaJohnson (24)

What is a good anti-vomiting medicine?

I would like to get one over-the-counter.

You can use some antihistamines that are over the counter. Meclizine (Ativert) and dimenhydrinate (Dramamine) are the most effective antiemetic medications that sold over the counter. Meclizine causes less drowsiness then dimenhydrinate.

Some good over-the-counter anti-emetics include Pepto-Bismol, Dramamine, meclizine or cyclizine. The latter three medications are antihistamines used for motion sickness and may help with other vomiting causes.

Firstly the reason you are vomiting should be addressed by a doctor, as this can be a symptom of some serious disorders which may require treatment. Bismuth subsalicylate can protect the stomach lining and treat some types of sickness. also, ginger has been used as a natural antiemetic.

If possible, let the vomiting work its course to rid the body of irritants. But if necessary, Emetrol and Dramamine can help with unwanted vomiting.

By far, it's Pepto Bismol or a generic kind. It's over the counter and in almost every store. It works within a half hour and is great for other things.

Of the over the counter drugs available, none will work as well as beverages containing Ginger, such as Ginger ale. If the cause of the vomiting is due to motion sickness, then over the counter antihistamine drugs work very well.
