What is a gifted score on the WISC-IV?

I'm thinking my child might be gifted.

The top score is 160. Anything above 140 is considered outstanding and worth further evaluation. The further hurdle is to have the school accept and use the numbers.

To be considered gifted, one must score at least a 130 on the test. However, the creators are considering changing that threshold as new emphasis leads formerly above 130's to-average-a-124.5.

WISC-IV is the acronym for the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – 4th Edition. It is comprised of four indexes: Verbal Comprehension, Perceptual Reasoning, Working Memory, and Processing Speed. Children aged 6 to 17 may be tested. A normal score in each area ranges from 102 – 106. Gifted scores exceed 125-130.
