The spleen is an organ in the upper left side of your chest. The spleen had several functions including immune defense activities and as a repository for red blood cells in case of trauma. When you lacerate or tear your spleen, this is also known as fracturing it.

The spleen helps to regulate the body's toxicity. A fractured spleen means that your body has the potential to suffer infections or internal bleeding -- both likely fatal if untreated.
