What is a flower spike?

I know that it is a type of flower or stalk of the flower but do not understand exactly what it is and means.

A flower spike is a kind of inflorescence (arrangement of the individual flowers on the stem) where a group of stalk-less flowers grows on an upright steam.

Usually when someone talks about a flower spike they are talking about a new shoot that is coming up next to the original and usually when you look to replant to get more of them the spike is what you will dig up to do this.

a spike on a flower is where the flowers grow from. its the central stem where everything comes from its like the same as the base of the stem because it is the same part
