A "finger stick" is just that: the finger is stuck with a tiny lancet in order to obtain a drop or two of blood, which is sufficient for a number of medical tests.

"Finger stick" is a general term that means blood is drawn from the tip of a finger. It is used when not very much blood is needed, unlike, say a blood draw from a vein. Tye typical finger stick produces only a few drops of blood - all that's needed.

A finger stick is used to draw blood from the finger for diabetic blood testing. I small pin-like instrument is used that is called a lancet. A few drops of blood is all that you can get.
