This is an ultrasound examination where they view all the pelvic organs like the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes and urinary bladder. The examination is done by placing a probe first on the lower part of your tummy. They then place a special probe inside your vagina as this helps look at these organs clearly. PCOS is PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome.

It is used to detect masses larger than 3 cm, such as ectopic pregnancies and ovarian cysts. Only a small portion of the transducer, which is the probe, will be inserted into the vagina. The procedure is painless, although some may feel pressure from the probe. The probe sends out sound waves to produce the picture on the monitor.

A complete pelvic ultrasound is done to see polycystic ovaries. You are asked to drink 40 ounces of water an hour before the exam. The ultrasound is then performed by placing a cold jelly on your pelvic area and an ultrasound is done. You then relieve yourself and another instrument is inserted in your vagina to take another ultrasound.
