A collision domain is an area where multiple ethernet or other networking devices share a section of cable. Because there is not a device to limit who can talk at any given time, each machine must listen to ensure that they are the only device transmitting on the physical media at any given time.

Its pretty much an area of interference when two devices are trying to send signal to another at the same time. And yes this happens with computers all the time.
