Bottle brushes can be found in the east and south-east of Australia's tropical north to the temperate south. Those plants can be lightly pruned after flowering to keep them in shape. They often grow in damp or wet conditions such as creek beds or in areas which are prone to floods.

Spectacular evergreen tree or shrub that grows in warm, moist climates. Mostly a native to Australia. The shrub and sometimes tree has bright purple, pink, and red, and attract nectar-feeding birds and bugs.
