On defense: strong safety, weak safety, 2 cornerbacks, linebackers, and the defensive line (nose guard, defensive tackle, and defensive end). Depending on the defensive scheme; 3 linebackers with 2 tackles and 2 defensive ends or 4 linebackers with a nose guard and 2 ends.

There is an offense, a defense and a special teams unit. Special teams is responsible for the kicking (kicking off, punting, field goals). The offense includes the quarterback, the offensive line (in charge of protecting him), wide receivers and running backs. The center hikes him the ball.
