Pencils are graded by both hardness and blackness. A 9H pencil for instance would be extremely hard, while a 9B pencil would be extremely black. The middle of the scale is called a HB pencil. A 2B pencil is near the middle, but slightly blacker.

This is just a regular yellow pencil that has the number two on it towards the eraser to identify it.
