I only know about a # 2 pencil.

It is used to draw or sketch softer lines, although it is more useful for shading. The higher the number, the softer the graphite in the pencil.

A number 2b pencil will have a darker color than a regular number 2 pencil, the b stands for black. It can be used when shading a drawing.
