My nephew has been diagnosed with a subarachnoid cyst in the temporal lobe. What causes that and can it be treated?

My sister (his mom) can't seem to give me any information.

Studies show that they are usually developmental malformations which occur due to splitting and tearing of arachnoid membrane. It can also occur secondary to other diseases like arachnoiditis. The treatment includes surgical placement of a cerebral shunt, fenestration, drainage by needle aspiration, capsular resection, and pharmacological treatment.

They do not cause symptoms unless quite large. They can cause headaches, dizziness and imbalance as well as hearing symptoms, affect vision. MRI Scan would show the size. There are treatments but depends mostly upon the size and location of the cyst. Surgical removal or Puncture of the cyst in other words Micro-neurosurgical techniques and endoscopic tools are the treatments.
