It depends. If you were served by an officer of the court, a warrant can be issued, depending on the case and the reason you were called.

The judge will issue a bench warrant for your arrest. For example, if you are a witness in a trial and you do not answer the summons you can be fined or put in jail. Depending on the judge they may just give you a warning first.

The answer to this question depends on whether the summons is for a civil case or a criminal case. If you do not respond to a civil case, then judgment may be entered against you for whatever relief was sought. In a criminal case, your failure to appear may result in a bench warrant for your arrest.

Depending on the case another summons can be issued or the sheriff can show up on your door step to escort you to the courts.

If you do not have a very good reason like illness or incarceration the judge may issue a warrant for your arrest. Try and go to the courthouse as soon as possible and explain what happened.
