                                                          18 gauge stainless steel is the most common gauge steel used for sinks.  However, depending on price and quality, other gauges may be used.  Some of the more expensive sinks will use a 16 gauge stainless steel.  The lower the gauge number, the thicker the steel is and will tend to be stronger and more dent resistant.
