It used to be the left ear was for straight men, and the right ear was for gay men. Pierced folk generally don't associate either ear with sexual orientation anymore.
It is common belief that men who have their piercing on the right ear are homosexuals. In modern times, men have either and both ears pierces and it is no longer a stereotypical gay piercing.
