Hitting it " stiff " means to hit the ball solidly with the club and have a very good ball flight trajectory and on target. You can tell when you hit the ball on the sweet spot of the club face and by the sound it makes.

"Stiff it" is not a rude term at all, and, in fact, is a very positive term. When a player hits a shot that lands very close to the hole, he is said to have "knocked it stiff". So if someone tells you they "stiffed it" on their last shot, that means they hit it close to the hole.
