The "starboard side" of a boat is the right side when you are facing the front (bow) of the boat. The "port side" is the left side. At night, the starboard side of the boat will be lit at the bow with a green light, and the port side will be lit by a red light.

Starboard side is a nautical term that refers to right side of the boat as you face the front or bow. Port side is the left. "Port" has the same number of letters as "left;" that's a good way to remember.
