Answer by  Josephdecker0 (48)

The amount of wattage that an amplifier puts out continuously, is measured in RMS. The higher the RMS rating, the cleaner and crisper the sound will be at higher volume. Also, the lower the voltage rating, the better the music will perform. 12v 100watt rms amplifiers generally perform better than their 14. 4volt counterparts.

rms stands for "root means square" like in other words it means the amount of watts the speaker should be getting. it is like a mathematical/statistical method for measuring something that varies. see that was easy =-) i always love to answer questions so i'm happy to answer yours thanks =')

RMS is an acronym for root mean square and/or quadratic mean. Root mean square is a mathematical/statistical set of values in order to calculate the mean quantities of outlet power over time through an audio device. Typically, when the RMS is higher, the music output is louder, cleaner, and of higher quality.

RMS stands for root mean squared, which refers to the attenuation on the signal of the audio depending on the amperage and impedance load of the actual device. A signal that is RMS is actually square root of 2 less than a none-RMS signal.
