What does it mean to be baptized by the Holy Spirit?

You will know if you've been baptized by the Holy Spirit. It's not really something that you can explain. It is a personal thing and not something that people should go around asking just anyone if they've experienced.

The book of Acts describes the holy spirit coming on those gathered like tongues of fire and they were given the gift of tongues. Many Christians believe that the holy spirit comes on Christians today in a similar way.

It means that you have accepted God into your heart and know him to be your saviour. It also means that you know that you sin but you ask for forgiveness from him and you know that you are forgiven. It is often refered to as being saved because you are saved from hell when you believe in God.

It means that you have been "born again" - you have had a dramatic religious experience which some Christians believe is the Holy Spirit filling you to remove your sins.

It is a spiritual gift given to empower believers for serving others, not your own salvation. The main sign is praying with an unknown language. Read the beginning of Acts.
