Knock knees are a common occurrence in childhood which is not believed to be abnormal unless it persists. In overweight children it may happen because their knees can not adequately support them. Normally, this description pertains to a child who is standing and whose ankles don't touch but whose knees do. It usually disappears by school age.

A standing child whose knees touch but ankles do not may be said to have knock knees. This may be a normal sign of growth.
