What does it mean if I get this on my computer: error! no text of specified style in document?

First thing to try is to delete the normal.dot file (do this without Word running) and then restart Word - this will create a new normal.dot file which may solve the problem.

The message 'error! no text of specified style in document' most often happens when you do not have specified settings applied. The most common setting that creates this error is the captions numbering. TO fix go to insert menu, pick references, numbering, uncheck include chapter number, hit OK two times.

If this is in Microsoft Word it means your original normal.dot document template file has been corrupted. Location it using a search, while Word is not running, restart Word. Word should then recreate the file and it should eliminate the problem. Failing that it may be chapter numbers, go to Insert/Reference, click Numbering and uncheck the Include Chapter Number box.

Try it with this: Close word. Then delete the normal.dot file. Now start word again. A new normal.dot will be created.
