Raynaud's can occur idiopathically (primary Raynaud's) or it can be caused by some instigating factor (secondary Raynaud's). Secondary Raynaud's is associated with autoimmune disorders. It's often the first symptom of these types of conditions. The ANA test is often used to screen for those same disorders. An elevated ANA titer indicates that the Raynaud's is secondary rather than primary.
