If the dog is a puppy, you may want to clean the area twice a day with a warm wash cloth and puppy shampoo. This will help prevent continued onsets. There are many probiotics that will help get rid of bacteria. However, if the case is bad, a vet visit may be best for the dog.

Keep the vaginal area clean and dry. Sometimes, your vet will prescribe a iodine douche to keep the area bacteria free. If severe, oral antibiotics will be used to help.

You will need to take her to the vet. They will ask for a 'mid stream' urine sample, which is a joy to try and collect. If you have a ladle you don't want use anymore, tape a stick to the handle and follow the dog until she pees, catch it and put it in a cup.

I suggest prescription antibiotics but there are some home remedies. Tea tree oil can be used to kill bacteria and should be used topically. Recommend 1 cup water with 1 tsp of tea tree oil.

After trying many home remedies, the only thing that worked for my dog was antibiotics and an ointment, both prescribed by a vet.

I have a dog that had reoccurring vaginitis (espeically after her heat cycle) and I was able to clear it up with plain yogurt. Most dogs do not like the taste so one can also buy acidophilus pill and mix it with their food. I eventually had to have my dog spayed which eliminated the problem completely.
