Most of the time, you'll probably qualify for some sort of deferred prosecution or diversion. It might mean some form of probation, restitution, and community service, especially for a juvenile.
That depends on the age of the offender and the amount stolen. Of course it also depends on the location. For juveniles the normal outcome would be release to the parents and probation that might include a class. For adults the worst that might happen would be community service and some classes.
