They are very loyal and sensitive and may not warm up to others outside the family they feel they belong to.

You should know about health issues, temperament issues, average life span, and congenital issues that can be tested for. Ideally you would get an older rescue Daschund that has lived in a home with a family so you can determine if it's a good fit for your family.

They are very lovable dogs. There barks can be loud, and there a little on the needy side. The females usually need help with delivering puppies. There long ears help them hear a lot better then other dogs. They hunt both above and below the ground. They will dig in your yard.

They are at risk for hip and back problems, so you will need to watch their weight carefully. They are also prone to "small dog syndrome" so make sure to train them properly.

Daschund's can developt spine issues which can be quite serious if the dog becomes over weight so it's important to keep the dogs diet healthy. As with any condition or disease your daschund may not be effected by it but it is best to research all possibilities.
