Living in Ohio will be difficult for the hibiscus plant to grow because most species of the hibiscus thrive in tropical climates. In Ohio, I would plant the hibiscus in the sunniest and warmest area of your yard, preferably facing south and keep watered daily.

Hibiscus plants are a showy flowering perennial that are frost sensitive, but will grow and flower well in a protected position. Feed in spring and prune after flowering.

Hibiscus are a tropical plant and if you want them to be an annual, Ohio will be fine. If you wish to overwinter them, you should bring them indoors as the frost will probably kill them off.

You have to bring it in the winter. It will bloom inside if you feed and water it. It should really rest - you just water it until spring returns.
