A lipid panel...cholesterol readings... indicates the risk for heart disease or diabetes. There are four components tested...the total cholesterol....the low density cholesterol (LDH) or bad cholesterol...the high density (HDL) or good, cholesterol and the triglycerides. The ratio of the good to bad indicates the risk of developing cardiovascular disease. The triglycerides, if elevated, show the risk of developing diabetes.
