Christians celebrate Jesus's victory over death. As professed in the Nicene Creed, Jesus suffered death on the cross and was buried. He was resurrected on the third day (Easter). His resurrection was discovered when Mary Magdalene and other women went to anoint his body and the tomb was empty.

Jesus was crucified on Good Friday on the 3rd day which would be Sunday he rose from the dead. This is what Christians celebrate on Easter. It is a time of celebration after a very solemn time in the church leading up to his death. It is considered a new beginning.
