What different grants are there for going back to college?

I have had two kids and they are old enough now where I am ready to go back to school. However, with taking care of them, I don't have much money, but I want to be able to provide a better life for them. To do that I need to get my education.

There are tons of different grants that the federal government gives for returning back to college. If you don't have any college yet, your best bet is to go to a local two year community college and review the grants that they have available.

Pell grants are available as well as additional grants from your state or local government. Stay away from private schools like University of Phoenix and stick with community colleges.

I would consider going on the internet to search for grants. If your income level is a certain amount per year, they will see to you getting some kind of grant, even financial aid on top of the grant. It's a good decision to go back to school.

There are many grants and scholarships available, you just have to find them! There are some for specific majors, for people of certain backgrounds, even for older students, or those going to school after some time off.

If you are twenty-five or older, you can apply for a Pell Grant if you are below a certain income level. That's one of the most common ones.

Different states have different programs. I would contact a career link in your state. A representative or senator may also be able to help. Try the workforce development program through labor and industry in your state.

Every college calculates its financial aid awards differently. Most offer a combination of scholarships and grants that are basically "free money" along with student loans that must be paid back. The only way to find out the specifics is to speak with a financial aid representative at that specific college.

Right now with the ecomony being so bad, the usual grants may be difficult to obtain. You might want to start small, and totally free and go to the local library, or to your local unemployment office and see what free classes they have to offer. They usually have some basic computer classes which you need in todays job market.
