As part of the state government, public schools are typically closed for all federal holidays, including MLK Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, and Labor Day. They also get a winter and spring break. If state workers aren't off on a federal holiday, then the schools in that state usually aren't either. Private schools decide on their own days off.
