There are several factors that could have caused your syrian hamster to die. Food poisoning, nose bleeding, diasese, or just old age. Hamsters do not have that long of a life span, so anything can really happen to them unexpectantly.

It could have been many types of illnesses or just old age. Hamsters do have quite a short lifespan. Only way to know is to get a necropsy. You have to keep the animal in the fridge (not freezer) and take it to a vet within a day or so.

Rodents have notoriously short lives. How old was your Syrian hamster? He may have died from simple old age and nothing else.

It could have been older than you thought and died of old age. But also it could have had some type of infection or disease
