What could cause my Caprice engine to misfire?

the cylinder may not be getting enough compression because a valve may be stuck.or the spark plugs are bad. try pulling the wires off of the distributor one at a time to see if the engine changes in activity or not to tell if they are working or not distributo

It could be a couple of things, it could be something in your ignition is messed up, fuel system or your timing is off. I would first check my spark plugs, spark plug wires and coils. If not that then run a fuel cleaner through. Last check your timing.

Water under the distributor cap. Spark plug wire shorted on the exhaust manifold or bracket. Cracked spark plug boot jumping to ground near the cylinder head. Worn spark plugs. Broken connecting rod (extreme). Stuck open EGR valve. etc.

If your camshaft position sensor and/or crankshaft position sensor has an error is failing to fire the coil packs, it could cause a misfire.

The cause for misfire may be the dirtyness on the injection motor. Also in conjunction with the oldnessness of various filters.

This is a common problem with older Caprice models. The car has been around for some time, and chances are you bought it second hand. In your car's former life, it was probably used as a taxi cab or a police car. Leave it to taxi drivers and cops to trash a car! My advice: sell it.

the timing could be off so you would need to get that readjusted. you could also have a bad spark plug. in which case you would need to find out which one is bad and replace it.

Backfiring is usually caused by unburnt fuel in the exhaust. This could be due to a cylinder not firing or firing too late. Check your timing and your plugs.

May be the fuel is not burnt properly or any dirt is there at your engine. Check for the plugs properly working or not?.

A caprice engiine could start to misfire if its used or handled in a vigarous behaviour, putting to much torque in the car could push the transmission to fire.
