This is a sign your body is fighting an infection - any type of infection, like a viral cold or a flu, right up to big problems like leukemia.

If it is sore, that often means you are dealing with some kind of an infection. It is possible that you have a cold or a sore throat or even just seasonal allergies and your lymph nodes are being affected. If the lymph node feels hard you should contact a doctor in case you have a more serious infection.

There is a possibility that you have a viral infection. Just like you can get an upper-repritory infection, viruses can attack the lymph nodes causing swelling and pain. These nodes are not only in the neck area, but can also be found under the armpit.

I would think that infection would be the number one cause of a sore lymph node. Other then that maybe just fatigue or stress.
