What could cause a hard, flesh colored bump on my skin?

Answer by  cio (64)

It may be a sebaceous cyst--a collection of dead skin tissue and fat. It is usually harmless and may appear on the scalp, trunk, back, arms. The usual causes are hormonal (such as someone going through puberty). Infections of the skin are usually red and painful, and may also contain pus.

Depending on the area, a hard flesh-colored bump on your skin is most commonly an ingrown hair or the beginning of a pimple. If the bump changes in color or size, it could be a sign of skin cancer.

A hard flesh colored bump on ones skin could be the result of a cyst. A cyst is an epithelial lined, fluid filled cavity within the skin. Most times cysts are harmless, but depending on what information your doctor has, you may need to have the cyst drained. This will remove the bump.

The cause of hard bumps on the skin is either from an insect bite or an allergic reaction. If it is an insect bite, you will typically see a bite mark in the middle of the bump. Allergic reactions are small bumps that itch.
