Brownish discharge usually means there is an infection present and your cat needs antibiotics, either in ointment form, orally, or both.

I believe that this brownish discharge is the result of a yeast infection in the cat's eyes. I would recommend taking your cat to the vet for antibiotics or help diagnosing this problem.

Some amount of discharge is expected in a cat. The more discharge the more of a problem. If the discharge is constent and colorful green, yellow or brown it is probaby an infection. Don't worry infections are common and could be a result of a scratch of something in it.
