car repairs

Question by  Vina98124 (69)

What could be wrong with my Volvo if I hear a noise and feel shaking while idling?

This is the only time I'm hearing and feeling this, and there are no other "symptoms". What is wrong with my car?

It sounds like you may have an intermittent spark plug. When you car is idling it is not producing that much electricity, and if your spark plug is dirty then it may not have the power to produce the spark and cause the engine to run rough at low rpm's. Check your spark plugs.

This could be due to a faulty throttle body, it could also be due to a misfire in the motor. If the idle is jumping all over the place, this is likely the cause.

At an idle the two most likely items are the fan and the spark plugs. It's possible that the fan is broken and hitting something or you have a misfire.

Check to see if the valve cover is leaking oil into the sparkplugs. If so, it will cause them to not get enouph power to spark properly.

This could be the transmission. You should talk to a mechanic as soon as possible before it gets worse or it breaks down. It could be a cracked head though. If you notice anything when you switch gears then it is more than likely the transmission. The price of repair or replacement of a transmission ranges.

It could be alot of things but the first thing I would check is to see if the Catalytic converter shield under car is loose and rattling
