There are several causes for blood and mucus in the stools. Some of the more common causes include intestinal parasites such as giardia, irritable bowel syndrome, and eating something he should have not, such as bones or garbage. Less common causes include pancreatitis, viral or bacterial infections, and even cancer.

That could be one of a number of things including internal bleeding or it could be that the dog has had diarhea for a prolonged period of time and you need to call the vet and ask them how to treat it you can also search it on the net for tips.

He may very well have worms. In fact if that is going on you might want to call the vet and have him looked at to make sure that he has not gotten a case of the worms. It also could be something more serious.

If you are noticing blood in the stool take him or her to the vet. This could be a sign of Parvovirus that could end up making your dog ill.
