If you are sedentary then it is probably related to bad posture or general weakness. If you are active then it may be an acute injury. There are many possibilities including tendonitis, active trigger points, and maybe even a stiff neck that manifests as shoulder pain. Keep notes on what increases or relieves the pain to help your doctor.

Sometimes shoulder pain can be a referd pain caused by a problem in a completly diffrent area of the body. Some common problems, however, are seperations, tendinitis, bursitis, rotator cuff tears, and arthritis. You will need to be x rayed and possibly have a MRI to properly diagnose your pain though.

IF other possible medical conditions have been ruled out this may be a prolem caused by your atlas bone which may need to be adjusted by a specialized chiropractor(NUCCA)
