It can be either a behavioral or health problem. Depending on the age and breed of dog, they may not have developed good urination habits. If there is a new animal or person in the home, it may be causing fear or nervousness in the dog. It can also be a sign of more serious problems such as kidney dysfunction.

Typically, it is a result of water intake and is not necessarily an indicator of health problems. Especially if the dog has recently consumed a large amount of dry dog food. Watching the animals for other signs of illness, such as loose stools, severe bloating, lethargy, or vomiting is wise to ensure there are no other health issues.

Is your dog on any medication? Prednisilone can cause excessive urination in a dog. If not, they could be dehydrated or could have other serious issues going on with their kidneys or bladder. Take them to have them checked by a vet. They may need to be checked for kidney stones. Remember, dogs can have the same problems you can.

Your dog could have a UTI or Urinary Tract Infection. If your dog does have an infection it will cause him to pee a lot just as it does for humans. Take him to the vet for blood work. It is NOT uncommon for dogs to be infected. Make sure he drinks a good amount of water.
