What could be causing stabbing pain below my rib cage?

This can be a muscular spasm. If the pain is on the left it could be stomach problems such as an ulcer or indigestion. The pain if on the right side could be liver problems if you are a heavy drinker or is taking a lot of medication you should try to have a break to rest the liver.

If you have had any kind of trauma to your upper body, the pain could be from a cracked rib, especially if the pain is worse when you breathe. Another cause can be strained muscles. The best way to find out what is wrong is to consult a medical professional.

This is a dangerous sign you should seek medical attention immediately. It is a form of chest pain and yes sometimes a sign of a heart attack. Please take this seriously. It can also be stomach problems only a doctor is qualified to treat and differentiated this type of medical symptom.

It's not very good, it could mean heart problems, lung problems, ammonia, gall bladder,whatever it is it's not good, go to the emergency room or call 911 immediately. This could be a dangerous problem and should be addressed as soon as possible by a doctor. He's the only one that can address this issue.
