What could be causing stabbing pain below my rib cage?

Answer by  dr84bhl (2789)

This can be a muscular spasm. If the pain is on the left it could be stomach problems such as an ulcer or indigestion. The pain if on the right side could be liver problems if you are a heavy drinker or is taking a lot of medication you should try to have a break to rest the liver.

If you have had any kind of trauma to your upper body, the pain could be from a cracked rib, especially if the pain is worse when you breathe. Another cause can be strained muscles. The best way to find out what is wrong is to consult a medical professional.
